German coach involved in football spying scandal
Southampton's coach, German Tonda Ikert, admitted to his responsibility for the espionage scandal "SpyGate" that shook the club, as he was accused by the English Football Association and faced legal action. The club suffered penalties, including a four-point deduction and exclusion from the Premier League qualifying playoffs. Its reputation also took a hit, despite the club’s insistence that the actions were condemned and that the consequences were severe for the team and fans. Ikert confessed that he ordered his team to illegally monitor the training sessions of other teams, which is a violation of regulations, and he may face suspension. He clarified that he bears full responsibility for the decision, that he was not fully aware of the legal implications, and that the situation caused significant psychological pressure and personal tensions, including threats and seeking police protection.
