Russia Tightens Military Service Amid Ukraine War
Russia is intensifying its military service measures to strengthen its armed forces amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, going beyond the need to fill manpower shortages. Men of conscription age have been targeted through arrests, pressure, and threats, despite the significant financial incentives offered. Russian authorities continue to recruit volunteers, while avoiding the announcement of a new general mobilization. These measures reflect an increase in compulsory conscription efforts, despite a slowdown in voluntary recruitment, in an effort to maintain troop levels without causing internal or political escalation.
