Impact of Melilla crisis on right-wing rhetoric
The migrant crossing crisis from Morocco to Ceuta has shifted from a humanitarian and security issue to a political event exploited by right-wing parties in Europe and the United States to promote a confrontational rhetoric, describing the flow as an "invasion" threatening Europe. Campaigns focused on blaming the Spanish government for the chaos, with calls increasing to close the borders and deploy the army, amid repeated accusations of collusion and neglect. Analyses show that the discourse spread through interactive networks of Spanish, European, and American accounts, using the event to advance domestic and foreign political agendas, transforming the crisis into a battleground for political disputes over border control and the future of the Schengen Agreement.
