Egypt's preparedness for rare seismic events
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Egypt, approximately 40 kilometers north of Suez City, in the early hours of Monday. The quake caused panic among residents in Greater Cairo and wide areas, including Arish. The Ministry of Health reported no injuries or damages, but authorities activated the emergency response plan in case of any unforeseen events. Experts indicated that this earthquake is part of the region's normal seismic activity, which has recorded frequent tremors since 1900, and is a result of movement along an active fault in the area. Weak aftershocks are expected, which may be imperceptible, and so far, there are no indications of unusual or dangerous earthquakes.
