Validity of Robert Kennedy Jr.'s COVID vaccine claims
Meg Tiril examines the validity of Robert Kennedy Jr.'s claims regarding the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, where he alleged that respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and Lyme disease originated from a laboratory, a claim that lacks scientific evidence. Scientists have confirmed that Lyme disease is approximately 60,000 years old, and RSV, a respiratory virus, was discovered in the 1950s—before the development of techniques for modifying viruses in laboratories. Additionally, studies indicate that the most likely explanation for COVID-19's transmission is from animals to humans, rather than a lab leak. Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that vaccination provides additional protection for children against emergency visits related to COVID-19 during the 2024–2025 season. Furthermore, the FDA commissioner appointed by Kennedy denied the existence of a proven causal relationship between Tylenol and autism, amid previous unsupported claims.
