Egyptian secures Democratic Senate nomination
Abdel Rahman Said won the Democratic Party's nomination for the Michigan Senate race. He is a candidate belonging to the progressive wing and is the first Muslim to run for this position in U.S. history. President Donald Trump commented on this, considering Mr. Said's victory a turning point for the Democratic Party and reflecting an unexpected performance by the socialist candidate, who had been predicted by polls to make greater gains against him. If Mr. Said wins the election scheduled for November, he will become the first Muslim senator in U.S. history. His campaign focuses on healthcare reforms, campaign finance, voting rights, and immigration policies.
