Fact check on Houthi attack video
Social media circulated a video showing a fire on an F-15 fighter jet on the Nagrane Airport runway in Saudi Arabia, following a claimed Houthi attack. However, investigations confirmed that the video is old and relates to an incident involving a Greek F-16 aircraft that experienced a technical malfunction and landed safely in July 2026, and is not connected to recent attacks on Saudi Arabia. At the same time, the Iran-backed Houthi group announced that it targeted a sensitive site at Nagrane Airport with a drone, and imposed a naval blockade on Saudi ships in the Red Sea, accompanied by threats to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait — a strategic passage connecting the Red Sea to the Suez Canal — which is a sensitive point in the escalating tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
