Egyptian Diplomat on Shanghai's Role in Global South
The Egyptian diplomat affirmed that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has become a global platform through which Southern countries participate in reshaping the international system. The organization, which includes ten member states and 15 dialogue partners, has evolved from a regional framework focused on counterterrorism and security into a multilateral institution contributing to the construction of a new, multipolar international order that ensures fair representation for Southern nations. He pointed out that last year's summit saw the adoption of a long-term strategy (2025-2035) to promote development and enhance the organization’s role, praising China's ongoing support, which has helped expand and develop the organization. He also noted that the current international system suffers from double standards and Western dominance, while many countries seek to join Shanghai and BRICS as alternatives to achieve a more just global balance.
