Iran and Oman Near Strait Deal
Negotiations between Iran and Oman indicate that an agreement regarding the regulation of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is approaching, with a 50-50 chance of reaching an agreement by Friday. However, achieving this agreement does not necessarily mean the waterway will be reopened automatically, as talks have been ongoing for more than three weeks over the proposed routes for ships. At the same time, Iran emphasizes that its conversations with Oman are limited to bilateral relations, while attacks on maritime traffic in the region continue, including the Houthi attack on a oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden and the sinking of a vessel in the Bab el Mandeb Strait. Iran faces increasing pressure from sanctions and conflict amid rising regional tensions.
