The Egyptian Ministry of Information threatens to resort to the judiciary to confront misinformation on social media platforms, amid a 113% increase in rumors during the first half of the year, due to regional tensions. The ministry is working in coordination with the Ministry of Communications to monitor violations and curb the spread of rumors, while emphasizing respect for freedom of opinion within the framework of the law. The government plans to draft new laws to combat the negative use of social media, along with calling on citizens not to publish information that could defame or incite panic, and encouraging them to turn to the judiciary when necessary.
