UN urges Russia and Ukraine to protect civilians
The United Nations, through its Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, called for an end to attacks on civilian areas in Russia and Ukraine following a recent escalation that has resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians. The Secretary-General emphasized that attacks on civilians and infrastructure are a clear violation of international humanitarian law and must cease immediately. In the past week, intensive Russian shelling has killed 17 people and injured dozens in Kiev and the surrounding regions, while some individuals lost their lives in Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. The number of civilian casualties has been increasing since the beginning of the year, more than four years after the start of the war.
