For the first time since 2011, Syria has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat production. This comes after the amount of grains received from farmers during the current season exceeded the national need of 2.55 million tons, reaching 2.7 million tons, with expectations that there will be no need for imports this year. Prior to the conflict in 2011, the country was self-sufficient, producing about 4.1 million tons annually. However, the war and drought have caused a decline in production, forcing the country to rely on imports, especially from Russia. This achievement is the first of its kind in a decade and comes amid difficult circumstances in Syria, including drought waves that have damaged the agricultural sector.
