U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz will no longer hold the same importance for global oil supplies in the future, due to increased production and export of American oil from Texas, Alaska, and Louisiana, along with other alternative supply routes. These remarks come amid escalating tensions in the region, where Washington asserts its dominance over the strait and Iran emphasizes its sovereignty over it. This shift occurs as Trump aims to reduce reliance on the strait as a vital energy corridor, potentially altering the regional and international balance of power.
