Australia summoned the Israeli ambassador after the Israel Defense Forces' decision not to open a criminal investigation into the killing of Australian aid worker Zomi Frankom and six of her colleagues in an airstrike on the Gaza Strip in April 2024, considering it an insult to justice and humanitarian work. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed her disappointment and anger at the decision to close the investigation, noting that the incident resulted in the deaths of seven humanitarian workers, including an Australian. She emphasized that the incident raises questions about accountability, especially since the Israeli army claimed they were killed "unintentionally" but did not open a criminal investigation.
