The article indicates that the Syrian authorities have completed investigations into the chemical weapons dossier, during which Colonel Ahmed Habib Ali, one of the individuals responsible for the former chemical program, was arrested. He was in charge of sarin gas storage and chemical manufacturing facilities. The investigation continues with people connected to the program, aiming to identify all responsible parties and put an end to impunity, in cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Syria’s membership in the organization has also been restored following efforts to dismantle its chemical arsenal. However, inspections are still ongoing at more than 25 suspected sites, with documents and materials whose full details have not yet been uncovered. The chemical program is part of an integrated system linked to the top of the regime, which is accused of using chemical weapons more than 217 times since 2012, resulting in over 1,500 deaths.
