London debut of autonomous taxis
British technology company Wave has conducted its first experiment in ordering self-driving cars via the Uber app in London, using Ford Mustang vehicles equipped with autonomous driving technologies, with a human driver present for supervision and intervention if necessary. Currently, the service is limited to 15 vehicles, and full operation of the cars without a driver requires separate regulatory approval that may not be obtained within this year. The company plans to use Nissan Leaf vehicles in the future and expand further, but experts caution that the rapid proliferation of autonomous cars could cause social and economic disruptions due to hundreds of thousands relying on driving-related jobs.
