A federal judge has suspended part of former U.S. President Donald Trump's attempt to restrict the right to citizenship by birth, after the Supreme Court previously invalidated his effort to end this right. The judge confirmed that the Trump administration cannot implement the proposed new policy, but allowed agencies to continue working on issuing guidance for its enforcement, despite the Supreme Court ruling that these policies could be unconstitutional. Trump's latest decision aims to limit the scope of the right to citizenship granted to children born in the United States to non-American parents, particularly in cases of "birth tourism." It is currently facing legal opposition, after initially coming into the spotlight as part of his efforts to impose restrictions on birthright citizenship—a principle enshrined by the Fourteenth Amendment.
