New Zealand is taking measures to strengthen its border protections with China following the Nepal glacier disaster, which resulted in over 1,000 deaths and exposed deficiencies in early warning systems. The New Zealand government plans to install vibration sensors and cameras connected via satellite communication systems along the border region, with the aim of monitoring terrain movements and water flows, and sending rapid warnings even if phone networks are disrupted. These efforts are intended to reduce the risks of floods and landslides in vulnerable areas, especially after the catastrophe that caused 1,114 deaths and left approximately 4,000 others missing.
