Turkey accuses the administration of Southern Cyprus of attempting to distort historical facts and politicize the issue through a proposal in the European Parliament to allocate funding for the construction of a memorial aimed at offending Turkish forces, especially after Turkey condemned the role played by Turkish forces in 1974 to prevent the genocide of the Turkish Cypriot people and to achieve peace on the island. The statement emphasizes that the claims promoted by the Southern Cyprus administration are considered a distortion and politicization of historical facts, and underscores the need for the European Union to maintain neutrality and avoid favoring one side over the other to preserve trust between the Cypriot and Turkish communities.
