American human rights organizations are calling on Congress to eliminate a clause in the United States Defense Act that enhances military cooperation with Israel, which aims to accelerate the development of joint technology and defense industries. These organizations consider that strengthening ties with Israel’s defense sector would be "very dangerous," especially given the decline in American public support for Israel since the start of the Gaza War in 2023, where 48% of voters and 66% of Democrats now believe that U.S. support for Israel is excessive. This raises concerns about the potential impact of such cooperation on U.S. interests, especially as international criticisms of Israel's possible violations increase and violence in Palestinian territories escalates. An attempt was made to amend the law to prevent the inclusion of this clause, but it was not accepted. It is expected to be discussed and approved before the end of the year.
