Indonesian groups demand probe into student poisoning
The outbreak of food poisoning cases linked to Indonesian President Joko Widodo's program of providing free meals to students has affected over 2,000 students and teachers across three major islands. The National Human Rights Commission has called on the police to investigate these incidents and urged the suspension of operations at the kitchens suspected of being responsible for the poisoning. These events come amidst government efforts to improve nutrition, but the lack of strict standards for hygiene and health safety may threaten the program's success.
