Investigation into Aid Worker Killings in Gaza
The Guardian newspaper revealed that the seven relief workers killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza in April 2024 were treated as potential targets under Israeli military practices based on "guilt by association." These practices involve attributing responsibility to individuals for being near those suspected of belonging to Hamas. The investigation showed that the strikes were carried out based on the mistaken assumption that they were with armed militants, and the officers who conducted the operations carried out broad target classifications. Israel declined to take criminal action against those who carried out the airstrike, while Britain, Australia, and Canada condemned the decision, reaffirming their continued call for answers regarding the workers' deaths.
