In April 2024, Israeli forces killed seven workers from the organization "Global Central Kitchen" while they were attempting to deliver food aid to the Gaza Strip, despite prior coordination with the Israeli army and their supposed protection. The attack resulted in the deaths of workers from the United Kingdom, Australia, Poland, and others, after their vehicles were targeted by three consecutive airstrikes during a mission aimed at delivering more than a million meals. Investigations revealed that the convoy was operating in accordance with prior coordination and that Hamas had no control over the aid. It was also found that Israel mistakenly believed the convoy had been seized by Hamas, leading to the decision to target it, even though the Australian report and other evidence showed that the trucks completed their journey and successfully delivered the aid to the warehouse. The investigation demonstrates that the decision to attack was based on an erroneous assessment, and that the coordination process did not indicate any intention to harm relief workers. The workers were in designated humanitarian zones, highlighting errors and unwarranted escalation steps that resulted in civilian casualties.
