A novice hobbyist in a garden in the city of Ribe, Denmark, during weed and stone removal activities, discovered the largest known silver treasure dating back to the Viking Age, weighing approximately 18.5 kilograms. The treasure includes about 700 pieces of jewelry and coins, such as silver ingots, bracelets, and cutting tools. The treasure, which was placed in an original ceramic vessel from the 10th century, is larger than the previously known "Terslev Treasure," which weighed 6.5 kilograms. Among the discovered items are Arabic and Anglo-Saxon coins, indicating extensive connections with Europe and the East during the Viking Age, where silver served as a means of preserving value and facilitating exchange. It is believed that the treasure reflects a systematically organized wealth system and represents an important discovery for understanding economic roles and wealth during that period. The treasure will be displayed at the Danish National Museum after its valuation.
