One hundred and twenty-eight countries in Geneva agree on a non-binding document that paves the way for establishing international rules to regulate "killer robots," which are autonomous weapons systems capable of identifying and attacking targets without direct human intervention. Although the document is not legally binding, it sets the stage for future negotiations aimed at reaching an official treaty to ensure the regulation of their use and reduce risks to civilians, especially amid growing concerns over their deployment in conflicts such as Ukraine and Sudan. The agreement is expected to help establish a global framework that limits the spread of these weapons and enhances legal accountability, despite some countries, like the United States, continuing to call for greater flexibility.
