The US ambassador to Israel, Mike Hakabi, published statements calling on Israeli authorities to protect Palestinian civilians in the West Bank. He also called for the prosecution of violent settlers who attack Palestinians and are considered terrorists by the international community. These statements come amid an escalation in settler attacks, which have resulted this year in the killing of 27 Palestinians, as well as property burnings and repeated deadly assaults, especially following the escalation of the Gaza war in October 2023. Hakabi emphasized the need to administer justice against the settlers and highlighted the importance of safeguarding and ensuring the security of Palestinians. He pointed out that the situation in the West Bank could erupt at any moment due to rising violence. His visit to the Palestinian town of Tarmasa, despite the escalating tensions, was part of supporting international efforts to de-escalate the situation and reaffirming that settler violence is a form of terrorism that must be held accountable.
