Call for US support of Brazil's Pix system
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva confirmed that he will advocate for the Brazilian payment system "Pix" during his discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, amid trade tensions between the two countries. Lula announced that he will raise the issue of the "Pix" system, which was launched by the Brazilian Central Bank in November 2020 and allows for instant payments and transfers around the clock, in his potential meeting with Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations meetings in September. Lula's remarks come amid a trade dispute involving additional tariffs and American criticisms of Brazil's digital payment system.
