Mystery Skin Infection Spreading
In recent months, a rare skin infection has spread across Europe, known as "Rain Rot" or "Radiant Skin Disease." It is caused by the bacterium Dermatophilus congolensis, which typically infects animals, but has now begun appearing in humans, including those with no direct contact with animals. The infection leads to rashes and scaly skin lesions, with symptoms appearing on the face, limbs, and genital area, and may result in complications, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems. Factors contributing to its spread include high humidity and rainy weather, with increased cases in warm, humid regions. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation to understand how the disease spreads and to develop appropriate preventive measures.
