American researcher Bill Suweringen has proposed a project called "noRecognition," aimed at reducing the ability of AI-powered surveillance systems to identify people and vehicles through visual patterns designed to confuse the algorithms. The project was based on over 31 million tests conducted over an entire year to develop designs that decrease recognition accuracy. These patterns do not prevent visual capture but influence analysis software. They successfully disrupted eleven known systems, including vehicle license plate readers and facial recognition cameras. Their effectiveness was demonstrated during a live presentation at the "DevCon" conference in Las Vegas, where the system failed to identify a camouflaged car. Currently, the project's designs are sold on clothing, and Suweringen plans to develop custom covers for vehicles. However, their effectiveness is not guaranteed, as they may become less effective with updates to AI systems. The project highlights the ongoing struggle to balance technological advancement with privacy rights.
