The downing of a US MQ-9 drone in the skies over Qeshm Island by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard comes as part of Iran's escalation against American influence in the region. Iran announced that its aircraft shot down several American drones, including the MQ-9 and MQ-1, over the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, the oil tanker Elgaia was involved in an incident within the restricted area south of Hormuz. Reports indicate that US military operations against Iran have resulted in significant losses of drones, with operation costs exceeding $22 billion. This escalation threatens maritime navigation in vital passages and heightens tensions in the region.
