Baghdad Closes ‘Strong Resolve’ Amid Faction Uncertainty
The U.S. forces have officially concluded their departure from their bases in Iraq, including Erbil Air Base, reflecting the end of Operation "Steadfast Support." This withdrawal, which is the result of international consensus, aims to fully transfer security responsibility to Iraq, while the United States continues to provide support and training. At the same time, the withdrawal highlights the increasing influence of Iran and its allies within Iraq, as factions loyal to Tehran promote celebrations of a political victory. Iraqi leaders affirm that the fight against terrorism is ongoing and that security will be entirely managed by Iraq itself. Meanwhile, armed factions warn of military responses to any foreign presence. This withdrawal is considered a significant shift in Iraqi-U.S. relations, with predictions that Iranian influence could strengthen in the absence of direct U.S. presence.
