Lebanon-Israel Framework Agreement at Implementation Test
The Lebanese discussion regarding the "Framework Agreement" with Israel is currently marked by a debate over the implementation of its provisions, particularly concerning the withdrawal of Israeli forces from designated areas, the deployment of the Lebanese army, and verification procedures and guarantees. Emphasis is being placed on the need for Israel to adhere to a proper withdrawal and to return the prisoners. Despite commitments from Lebanon and the United States, the execution of the agreement faces obstacles, most notably the delayed Israeli withdrawal, the absence of international monitoring personnel, and an Israeli veto on the participation of major countries within the peacekeeping forces. Attention is now turning to an upcoming military meeting in Florida to monitor the progress of the implementation, with the United States reaffirming its pressure on Israel and ensuring the balanced application of the agreement, as well as emphasizing the importance of providing political backing for the Lebanese army to initiate effective implementation.
