Meretz delivers over one billion euros in aid to Kyiv
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv in a move that challenges Russia, which has issued warnings to foreigners to stay in the capital amid ongoing Russian airstrikes. During the visit, Merz reaffirmed Germany’s support for Ukraine by pledging a financial aid package worth one billion euros to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure, along with 350 million euros for restoring power plants. He also committed to delivering thousands of interceptor drones and speeding up the production of long-range weapons to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses, especially against drone and missile attacks by Russia, which have intensified their strikes on civilian infrastructure. The visit comes amid ongoing escalation, as a drone attack targeted a bridge in Kyiv shortly after Merz’s arrival, underscoring the pressing need for crucial support to Ukraine in facing Russia’s relentless assaults.
