Sources: Efforts to recruit Barghouti into Hamas alliance
Palestinian sources have confirmed that factions such as Hamas and the Palestinian Liberation Movement (Fatah) are negotiating the formation of a broad electoral coalition to participate in the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for late November 2024. The goal is to support a leading Fatah candidate, Marwan Barghouti, to be at the top of the electoral list. Hamas and its political rivals, including the Dwaylan faction, are in contact with figures close to Barghouti in an attempt to persuade him to join the coalition, despite Fatah’s pressure on Barghouti to remain part of its lists. Additionally, other Palestinian movements, such as Islamic Jihad, are trying to nominate independent technocrat figures to build Palestinian unity. These efforts are accompanied by a preference to postpone the elections to ensure their integrity and prevent external interference, amid ongoing efforts to establish a comprehensive national dialogue.
