Egypt and Ethiopia face Tigray conflict
The article discusses the diplomatic and military developments in the Horn of Africa region, with a particular focus on the escalating tensions between Ethiopia, Egypt, and Eritrea in the context of the dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and border security issues. Ethiopian forces took control of the city of Mekelle in the Tigray region following the retreat of rebel forces. Meanwhile, Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan held a summit in El Alamein, Egypt, to explore political solutions to regional conflicts, emphasizing rejection of external interventions and support for peaceful resolutions. The intensification of tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea has led to renewed hostilities, with each country expelling diplomats from the other, threatening to turn these disputes into larger conflicts that intertwine with regional and international interests. There are growing fears that the region could enter a cycle of new conflicts.
