Sora's Women Live Up to 100 Years
A recent study reveals that women in the small town of Polutana in Sardinia enjoy an unusually long lifespan, with the chance of living to 100 years or more exceeding the national Italian average by more than three times. Confirmed historical records from the church and local government documented that 38 out of 3,060 individuals born between 1900 and 1925 lived to reach 100 years old. This corresponds to a rate of approximately 1,242 centenarians per 100,000 births, compared to 793 in the wider region of Italy. Between 2021 and 2025, women in Polutana showed high survival rates, with their chances of reaching a century or more reaching 13.83%, compared to less than 4.5% in other parts of Italy. The exact reason behind the longevity of these women remains a subject of research, although verifying the ages of the historical residents confirms that the phenomenon is genuine.
