Germany detains key Killnet leader
German authorities have succeeded in arresting one of the leading figures of the Russian hacker group "Kilin," which has been active since 2024 and has extorted approximately 4,000 companies and institutions worldwide, demanding ransom payments totaling around $3 billion, with more than $140 million paid so far. The suspect was apprehended in Tokyo with the assistance of the Japanese police and was transferred to Germany. This operation took months of tracking digital evidence through monitoring the group's online activities and cryptocurrency transactions. It was part of efforts to track down and dismantle the group, which targeted various sectors including companies, hospitals, and government institutions. The authorities strongly warn companies against paying ransoms in order to enhance cybersecurity.
