Hormuz Crisis Raises Oil Shipping Costs
Global oil markets are experiencing a sharp rise in shipping costs due to disruptions in navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The cost of chartering supertankers has increased from $9.2 million in 2025 to approximately $77 million currently, adding about $38.5 per barrel of transported oil. This surge is attributed to the ongoing conflicts with Iran, which have led to altered shipping routes and longer transit times, thereby reducing operational efficiency and significantly raising prices. As a result, producers and exporters have been affected, with many having to offer discounts to offset the higher shipping expenses. This situation increases the economic burdens on the oil market and exerts pressure on prices and global markets.
