Do arbitration rules address goalless draws in Italy
The new arbitration rules launched in Serie A, led by the referees committee headed by Pierluigi Collina, have temporarily eliminated goalless draws for the current season. These rules, which impose time restrictions on throw-ins and substitutions, have prevented any match from ending in a 0-0 score so far, with no negative draws recorded in the 50 matches played to date. Additionally, these measures have contributed to improving the quality of the games and increasing the actual playing time, which has approached 60 minutes. Coaches and experts have praised their positive impact on the level of competition and performance. However, some analysts expect negative draws to return as competition intensifies, despite the rules' success in better organizing matches and raising referees’ standards.
