Activists compare Ilhan's migration to Melania's
The raid on Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's home in Washington, just weeks before the midterm elections, sparked a widespread political and legal controversy in the United States. The Department of Justice clarified that the operation was based on an official judicial warrant. The case centers around suspicions related to immigration documents that Omar's father completed when she was a child. Omar and her supportive team have denied any allegations of fraud. In response to the crackdown, Ilhan Omar stated that she is being targeted politically and that law enforcement is being misused as a weapon against opponents. Other Democratic figures criticized what they called the excessive use of authority, calling for respect for immigration laws and urging against politicizing the issue. The incident led to a social media uproar, with activists comparing Omar's migration story to that of Melania Trump, emphasizing that citizenship legitimacy is not determined by place of birth or political stance. They argued that the allegations regarding her immigration documents are part of a political and racial attack ahead of the elections.
