Young man walks home after near-death escapes
Bushby's 28-year journey on foot around the world is the longest of its kind, covering approximately 36,000 miles (58,000 kilometers) across the Americas, Asia, and Europe—surpassing the Earth's circumference of 25,000 miles. He began his trip in 1998 in Punta Arenas, Chile, aiming to return home to Hol, having departed at the age of 29. His rule was to avoid using any means of transportation unless absolutely necessary, and to continue walking from the point where he stopped. During his journey, he faced numerous dangers, including threats with a weapon, drowning, detention and deportation from Russia, threats from wild animals, falling in love with a woman, and he narrowly escaped death multiple times. He is expected to return to Hol in November 2026, having become the first person to walk continuously around the globe, breaking records such as exceeding the Earth's circumference, encountering dangerous situations, and demonstrating remarkable physical fitness despite his changing appearance since the beginning.
