Houthi conflicts fueled by military profits
The article discusses the escalating disputes within the Houthi movement, which have gone beyond mere accusations of corruption and the seizure of funds and supplies, to include dismissals, arrests, and armed confrontations among leaders and officials in various parts of Yemen. These conflicts are mainly driven by allegations of diverting fighter resources and trading them for personal benefit. As a result, the logistics situation on the frontlines is worsening, with increasing issues related to resource leakage—such as diesel and gasoline into the black market—and the exploitation of residents and traders for tax collection and provisioning. This occurs amid financial pressures and a decline in foreign funding, heightening the likelihood of clashes over sources of wealth and influence among the group’s leadership.
