Ethiopia seeks Israeli aid on Horn issues
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Ethiopian counterpart, Abiy Ahmed, discussed enhancing cooperation between their countries, especially given the regional tensions in the Horn of Africa and the security and political challenges Ethiopia faces in the Tigray region. The conversation comes amid Ethiopia's expanded control over Tigray and the deterioration of relations with Egypt and Eritrea, particularly regarding Nile resources and a maritime outlet. Experts believe that Israel could assist Ethiopia in managing regional pressures through security and intelligence support, especially as Ethiopia prepares to expand the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project and secure a Red Sea port, in an effort to reduce its dependence on neighboring ports after losing its coastline in 1993.
