Azerbaijani students and teachers barred from schools
The Azerbaijani schools faced a crisis due to the hijab ban that prevents veiled students and teachers from entering, leading to widespread protests on social media. The students and teachers broke the restrictions through street demonstrations, including students sitting on sidewalks and teaching classes in the streets, in a clear defiance of the decision. Concurrently, a popular protest was organized in Baku under the hashtag "Freedom of Hijab," and a female artist issued a societal apology, pointing to the worsening social and political situation. There were accusations that the campaign reveals a deep flaw in the implementation of secular nationalism, highlighting the ongoing crisis and the importance of affirming women's right to education and religious freedoms.
