Vatican: Pope undergoes lung removal
Pope Leo XIV underwent successful surgical treatment to remove part of his lung infected with a tumor, following the early detection of lung adenocarcinoma. The operation was performed at Augusto Gimelli University Hospital in Rome, where the lower lobe of his right lung was removed using video-assisted surgery. Doctors confirmed that the procedure was successful, and the 71-year-old pope is currently recovering and will need about a week of rest, with the Vatican continuing its work during his recovery. This is the first such health issue during his papacy, and the pope stated in a speech that the tumor was detected early and was well-treated, reminding everyone that this does not require any changes in church leadership, as he continues to hold full authority throughout his treatment.
