Syrian authorities detain bomb maker in Baniyas
Ali Kiai, known as "Meraj Orel," the main suspect in the 2013 Banyas massacre, has been captured while attempting to escape across the border. This comes after the arrest of his deputy, Jamal Tarablousi, who participated in mass killings and combat operations supporting regime forces during Syria's civil war. The massacre took place on May 2 and 3, 2013, resulting in the death of at least 248 civilians, including women and children, in the city of Banyas and the Biyada village in Tartous Governorate. Human rights organizations documented field executions and mass killing operations targeting civilians.
