Ali Kayali under Syrian security custody
The Syrian authorities managed to arrest Ali Kiaali, nicknamed "Muraaj Oural," the main suspect in the 2013 Baniyas massacre that resulted in the deaths of approximately 250 to 400 people. This event is considered one of the bloodiest mass executions in the Syrian conflict. He was apprehended during a security operation in Lebanon, in coordination with Lebanese officials, as he was attempting to escape across the border. It is worth noting that Kiaali was born in 1956 in Hatay Province, Turkey. He fled from a Turkish prison in 1982, fought alongside the Assad regime, and was involved in attacks targeting Turkey with support from Syrian intelligence, particularly the bombing of the border area in Reyhanlı, which led to the death of 53 people. This arrest sends a clear message that those responsible for crimes committed during the Syrian conflict will not be tolerated and that justice will be pursued for war crimes and crimes against civilians.
