Felipe's visit to Ceuta and Melilla sparks Morocco tensions
The visit of Spanish King Felipe VI to the cities of Ceuta and Melilla carries significant political implications, as Spain reaffirms its clear sovereignty over these two cities. This comes in response to Moroccan claims that consider them part of their historical and territorial territory. The visit follows unprecedented migration flows to the city in July, which resulted in the deaths of dozens and heightened tensions between Madrid and Rabat, especially with Morocco's demands for boundary demarcation and the recovery of both cities. During the visit, the King affirmed that Ceuta and Melilla are part of Spanish territory and pledged to maintain the country's sovereignty. This issue remains sensitive due to political and historical considerations and continues to be a point of contention between Spain and Morocco.
