Vatican: Pope recovers after lung surgery
The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Leo is showing steady improvement following a surgical procedure to remove a lung tumor last Saturday. He is now able to carry out his daily activities without assistance and will appear publicly on Sunday to recite the Angelus prayer for the first time since his hospital admission. The recent operation was part of treatment for adenocarcinoma of the lung, which is the most common type of lung cancer, and involved removing the lower lobe of his right lung. Although no official medical statement has been made regarding his discharge from the hospital, preparations for the Pope's trip to South America in November are proceeding normally.
