California governor proposes aid conditions
California Governor Gavin Newsom called for conditions to be imposed on U.S. military aid allocated to Israel, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between defensive weapons, such as the Iron Dome system, and others. He pointed out that this call reflects increasing divisions within the Democratic Party and that the current policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are leading to Israel’s international and popular isolation. He also described the Israeli war on Gaza as a "moral catastrophe." Newsom affirmed that party positions are shifting toward supporting a democratic Palestinian state alongside Israel, with some Democrats' backing for current aid measures decreasing.
